Trustee’s Christmas Letter

To all the Players and Supporters of the Titans Family

To all the Players and Supporters of the Titans Family

After a year unlike any other and, sadly with ongoing uncertainty due to the Omicron variant, as we move into 2022, we will be looking to further promote the basketball across the county. The aims of the Titans Foundation are to promote sport and recreation in a safe environment without distinction of sex, sexual orientation, race, nor of political, religious, or other opinions whilst promoting education, social inclusion, equality and diversity – this will continue to be our primary driver for the Charity and alongside this we want to continue the growth of the Northamptonshire Titans Club

The aim for 2022 is to further grow and strengthen our existing teams along with a desire for success in all local and national leagues. Given the events of 2020 & 2021, the pandemic and increased focus on equality, the Trustees of the Titans Foundation recognise that there is an ever more important need to provide as much opportunity for our players to train and play in a safe environment as much as possible given the restrictions and ongoing challenges of the Covid pandemic.

Aligned to the Government and Basketball England’s guidance, we appreciate that due to ever changing circumstances there are no guarantees however we will continue to support play and to do everything possible to keep our players safe during these uncertain times.

As, in past years, the club survives thanks to the many volunteers who give up their free time to allow the club to exist, we hope that we can continue to develop the funding of the Foundation through grants, donations and sponsorship and hope to share more news as projects and programs start.

We realise that one area we that must improve on is how we share the good news stories that we have. Over the last year we have implemented new activities and have successfully delivered these to the local community. Examples of these are:

  • Grants from: Sport England & Northamptonshire Sport – We would especially like to thank Tony Morrow for his efforts to obtain these – each one needs significant work to win and take time and commitment. These grants have enabled us to cover the costs of the supplies of wipes, hand gel and other Covid requirements without needing to increase the costs to our members and Tony worked very hard to obtain them!

  • New permanent 24 second clocks at NSB – thanks to a grant we were able to share the cost of these with NSB and these are a far better solution than our previous portable units

  • We have 6 new kits for our teams thanks to sponsorship from

    • Moulton College

    • TN Transport

    • Purple Bricks

    • Rhino Sports Academy

  • We have new courtside banners thanks to Moulton College, TN Transport & Rhino Sports Academy.

  • We have taken part in 74 league & cup matches across the 11 club teams so far this season (W43-L31), all in a safe covid environment, with three teams unbeaten in their leagues.

  • We have developed a workforce of 6 community coaches.

  • We have worked with the following agencies to deliver various community projects:

    • Northamptonshire Sport, Free 2 Talk, Basketball Northants.

  • We have delivered basketball into 26 schools to provide Basketball sessions for children aged 5 to 18 either in out of hours clubs (before school lunchtime or after school).

  • We have run 4 school holiday camps with events aimed at differing ability levels, including our first ever girls only camp.

  • We have supported 6 community projects across the county providing free access to basketball allowing children to get involved in the sport, some of whom have subsequently joined our teams.

  • We have, to date, operated community club sessions at 6 different locations across Northampton & Wellingborough for U11, U14, U18 juniors and Walking Basketball for seniors.

  • We have developed a thriving and positive partnership with Moulton College, which has already led to increased court time and new players joining our club. The longer-term ambition aims to keep talent local to allow Titans to continue its development and improve the pathway from juniors into the senior programme. As part of this partnership, we provide 3 coaches to support the Moulton Basketball Academy.

  • We have reinvested free school sessions into 7 schools to develop the base of the Titans pyramid.

  • We have additional growth for school delivery in place for 2022.

  • We have funded 6 club volunteers through the Foundation bursary onto coaching & refereeing courses to assist in our future growth.

The Foundation and Club are run by volunteers – we are always keen to welcome new people on board to help support our team, so if you are interested in helping, please get in touch!

The Trustees of the Northamptonshire Titans Foundation would like to thank everyone for their support and understanding this year, especially the Coaches and Team Managers who work so hard to keep us running, and to wish you all a very safe and Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year in 2022.

Best wishes

Crispin, Pete, Angela, Barry, Jade, Lu, Claire, and Jase
